Case 1: Working in open space in 2018
Consider this opinion poll with more than 8'000 participants in Switzerland: it unveils that about half of them find working in open space "horrible!".
Only 1 person in 20 "adores" open space. Taken at face value, this insight sounds indeed troubling.
However, such informal polls confound a variety of workplaces that people refer as open space, and likely include individuals who may not have first-hand experience working in open space (but do have an opinion).
In short, aggregate results without further analysis invite potential misjudgment, and may lead to biased conclusions.
Not the least, these results do suggest that an overwhelming number of people have either experienced, or heard that, some open space office designs are not "fit for purpose".
